On 27th February, 2026, the Department of B.Ed., Loreto College, organized a session titled “The Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm: An Innovative Approach to Teaching–Learning” for the B.Ed. Semester 4 students. The session was conducted by Dr. Charlotte Simpson Veigas, Associate Professor, Post Graduate Department of Education, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata.
Dr. Veigas began with a brief history of St. Ignatius of Loyola and explained the foundation of the Ignatian educational vision. She then discussed the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) in detail, highlighting its five components — Context, Experience, Reflection, Action, and Evaluation. She emphasized understanding the learner’s background and readiness, and explained the goals of the approach, including personality development, character formation, pursuit of excellence, and the creation of “men and women for others.”
The session also focused on IPP and justice, critical thinking skills, and the importance of reflection in transforming knowledge into meaningful action. The programme concluded with short videos demonstrating critical thinking and how the Integrated Pedagogical Paradigm can address real-life problems.
Overall, the session was insightful and enriched the students’ understanding of a holistic and value-based approach to teaching–learning.
